The Bit That Ages a House Fastest
Fascias, soffits and the outside faces of the guttering are the frame around the whole front of a house. When they go green and streaked, everything below them looks tired too, even if the brickwork is sound, the windows are new and the garden is immaculate. It is the cheapest part of a property to clean and the part that changes how the whole thing reads from the pavement.
White uPVC shows it worst. Algae grows in the shaded underside of the soffit, run-off from the gutter leaves grey tramlines down the fascia, and on the Wirral the salt-laden air adds a film that builds year on year on any elevation facing the estuary or the sea.

1. Assess and set access
I check the height, the ground conditions and whether ladders or poles are the safer option before anything goes up.

Doing uPVC Properly
The usual failure mode with fascias is a strong jet pointed at thin plastic. It looks fast and it causes problems you only see months later.
Pressure control
uPVC boards and their clipped joints do not need high pressure, and high pressure will force water behind them into the roof void and the timber. The work is done with controlled washing and a cleaner formulated for plastic instead, which takes slightly longer and does not leave you with a damp soffit.
The same restraint applies to any capping over old timber. Capping is a thin skin pinned over the original board, and an aggressive jet will lift it at the edges.
Fascia, soffit, bargeboard and cladding
The fascia is the vertical board the gutter hangs on, the soffit is the horizontal underside between it and the wall, and the bargeboard is the angled run up a gable end. All three get cleaned as one job, along with the outside face of the gutter itself.
Plastic cladding panels on dormers, porches and gable ends are cleaned the same way where they can be reached safely from ladders or poles.
What it will and will not fix
Algae, general grime, coastal film and gutter run-off streaking all come off. That covers the vast majority of what makes fascias look bad.
What cleaning will not do is reverse oxidation on plastic that has been weathering for fifteen or twenty years, or remove paint overspray and tar splashes that have bonded into the surface. I will tell you which of those you are looking at before I quote, not afterwards.
