Window cleaning is the newest part of what I do, and I am handling it honestly: these are one-off cleans. I am not signing people up to a regular round or a recurring contract, because I would rather do a small number of jobs properly than over-promise on a schedule I cannot keep while the carpet and exterior work is running.
That suits a lot of people better than a round does. Most households do not want someone appearing unannounced every six weeks and leaving a card through the door, they want the glass done properly before Christmas, before a party, after the builders leave, or before the photographer comes for the estate agent listing.
Where windows really earn their place is alongside the gutters and fascia. Once the ladders and poles are set up for work at height, adding the glass costs very little, which is why the combined gutter, fascia and window package starts from £55 and is the best value way to buy any of the three.
Frames, sills and glass are all cleaned, in that order, so nothing runs back down onto finished work. It is the same person doing it every time, insured, with £5m public liability cover.

Why Glass Doesn't Just Stay Dirty
Left long enough, dirt on glass stops being dirt and starts being damage.
Salt and grit etch the surface
Coastal air across the Wirral leaves mineral deposits that bond to the glass. Cleaned regularly they wipe away; left for years they can mark the surface permanently.
Frames and rubbers suffer first
Grime packs into the trims, drainage slots and rubber seals. That holds moisture against them, shortens their life and eventually stops the drainage holes working.
Rooms get darker without anyone noticing
Light loss through dirty glass happens gradually over a couple of years, so nobody sees it until the day it is cleaned and the room changes.

One-Off, Not a Round
This is worth spelling out, because almost every other window cleaner works the opposite way.
What one-off actually means for you
You book a clean when you want one. Nobody appears unannounced every six weeks, there is no card through the door asking for money, and there is nothing to cancel if you decide you would rather do it yourself next time.
If that ever changes and I start offering a regular round, I will say so on this page rather than quietly signing people up to one.
What gets cleaned
Glass, frames, sills and trims on accessible windows, plus patio and French doors, porches and conservatory side glass. Anything that needs scaffold or a cherry picker is outside what I take on, and I will tell you that when you call rather than after arriving.
Post-build cleans are a different job again: stickers, plaster splashes, silicone smears and paint flecks all take longer than a maintenance clean, so tell me if the house has just had work done and I will price it accordingly.
Coastal glass on the Wirral
Properties in Wallasey, New Brighton, Hoylake and West Kirby take salt off the sea as well as ordinary road grime. Salt film dulls glass far faster than dirt alone, and it is why seafront windows look tired again sooner than an inland property.
That does not mean they need a fortnightly round, it means a proper clean once or twice a year, done thoroughly, with the frames and drainage slots cleared at the same time.
Why the order matters
On a combined job the gutters are cleared first, the fascias and soffits washed second and the windows done last. Doing it the other way round means the glass gets splashed twice and you pay for work that has to be redone.
It is a small thing, but it is the difference between a bundle that is genuinely one visit and a bundle that is three jobs badly sequenced.

- Do you clean conservatories?
- The side glass and frames, yes, where I can reach them safely. Anything needing scaffold or powered access is outside what I take on and I will say so before booking.
- Do you need my water or electricity?
- No. The van carries its own water and power, so nothing runs off your supply.
